Elon Musk Seeks $134 Billion from OpenAI and Microsoft in Legal Battle
Elon Musk has demanded $134 billion from OpenAI and Microsoft, according to a court filing submitted by his attorney. The claim comes after a federal judge denied OpenAI and Microsoft's attempt to avoid a jury trial scheduled for late April in Oakland, California.
Financial economist C. Paul Wazzan calculated that Musk is entitled to a portion of OpenAI's current $500 billion valuation, citing his $38 million initial investment in 2015. Musk's attorney, Steven Molo, argued that the wrongful gains by OpenAI and Microsoft far exceed Musk's early contributions.
Musk left OpenAI's board in 2018 and launched his own AI venture in 2023. He filed a lawsuit in 2024 against OpenAI co-founder Sam Altman, alleging a breach of the organization's original non-profit mission. Both OpenAI and Microsoft have dismissed the claims as baseless harassment.
